World Taekwondo Olympic Solidarity Camp 2024 for Youth Underway in Dakar, Senegal

 

DAKAR, Senegal (May 20, 2024) - The World Taekwondo Olympic Solidarity Camp 2024 for Youth, aimed at the African region, commenced on May 20, 2024, at the Senegal National Arena (Arène Nationale du Sénégal). This camp, organized by World Taekwondo in partnership with the IOC Olympic Solidarity Team and the African Taekwondo Union (AFTU), seeks to provide top-tier training and strategic guidance to young athletes and coaches in preparation for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

 

The camp has brought together 42 participants, including 32 athletes and 10 national team coaches, from 10 countries within the region. Additionally, 12 local officials such as technicians, referees etc. are part of the camp to refine their competition management skills.

 

The success of this event has been ensured through the collaboration of each participating country's National Olympic Committee and National Taekwondo Associations. At the Senegal National Arena, participants are currently engaged in rigorous training sessions under the guidance of renowned coaches, Prof. Jeongwoo Jeon and Mr. Dongwan Lee. The training covers individual techniques, match analysis, tactical strategies for various scenarios, and the responsibilities and rights of coaches, referees, and administrators in overseeing competitions as well as practical experience with the Protector and Scoring System (PSS).

 

The World Taekwondo Olympic Solidarity Camp 2024 in Dakar represents a pivotal moment in the journey of Taekwondo in Africa, paving the way for increased competitiveness, excellence, and recognition in the years to come.
