11 African Countries Win Spots at Paris 2024 via Continental Qualification Tournament

 

DAKAR, Senegal (Feb. 13, 2024) - The African Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games took place at the Dakar Arena in Diamniadio, Senegal, between February. 10-11, with 16 athletes winning Olympic places for their 11 National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
 

The African NOCs whose athletes won berths to Paris 2024 are: Burkina Faso(two places), Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt (two places), Gabon, Gambia, Lesotho, Morocco, Niger (two places), Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia (three places). It is the first time ever that Gambia has qualified for the Olympic Games in Taekwondo.

The African Qualification Tournament saw athletes compete across the eight Olympic weight categories - four male, four female. The top two ranked athletes won places for their respective NOCs, meaning 16 Olympic berths were up for grabs.

 

Taekwondo’s Continental Qualification Tournaments offer athletes who have not qualified via Olympic ranking points, a last opportunity to qualify for the Games.

 

The next Continental Qualification Tournament will be Europe's which will take place from March 9-10 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
