Hungary, Uzbekistan, Korea and Iran claim gold on final day of Open Qualification Tournament for Wuxi 2022 Grand Slam Champions Series

 

WUXI, China (Mar 31, 2023) - The Open Qualification Tournament for Wuxi 2022 Grand Slam Champions Series came to a close with another excellent day of Taekwondo which saw athletes from Hungary, Uzbekistan, Korea and Iran winning gold.

 

In the women’s -57kg Luana Marton from Hungary won gold as she beat Iran’s Nahid Kiyanichandeh 2:1 in the final. The bronze medal was won by China’s Wenjing Gu as she overcame Tina Modanlou from Iran 2:0.

 

Svetlana Osipova won Uzbekistan’s second gold of the competition as she beat China’s Shunan Xiao 2:0 in the final of the women’s +67kg. China added a bronze to its silver medal with Yaxin Liu beating her compatriot Zitong Zhao 2:1.

 

In the men’s -58kg, Woo-hyeok Jung of Korea brought gold as he beat Iran’s Mahdi Hajimousaei 2:0. China added to its bronze medal tally as Kai Cheng won by withdrawal.

 

The last final was settled by a withdrawal as Iran's Amir Mohammad Bakhshi won gold in the men’s -80kg. Mehran Barkhordari of Iran won silver and Geon-Woo Seo of Korea won bronze.

 

The Wuxi 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series Final will be held on April 2nd and 3rd at the same venue as the Open Qualification tournament (Wuxi Taihu International Expo Centre).

 

The top eight athletes from each weight category from the Open Qualification Tournament and up to three recommended athletes per weight category by the World Taekwondo Technical Commission and one additional athlete recommended from the host country will compete in the Final.
