Korea Wins 1 Gold, 1 Silver on 2nd Day of World Junior Taekwondo Championships

Korea clinched one gold and one silver on the second day of the 10th World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei on March 24, 2014.

 

Russia took home one gold and one bronze, while host Chinese Taipei, Spain and Croatia grabbed one gold each. Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Germany won one silver each.

 

The second-day competition, which takes place at the Taipei Arena in downtown Taipei City, featured five weight categories: the junior female 44kg, the junior female -63kg, the junior male -48kg, the junior male -51kg, and the junior male -73kg.

 

In the junior female -44kg weight division, Korea's Sang-eun Park needed a fourth golden-point round to earn her country the gold medal as she won the final match with a superiority against Iran's Fatemeh Omouriharis. In the same category, Canada's Emma Lee di Giovanni and the Great Britain's Katie Bradley shared the bronze medal.

 

In the junior female -63kg weight category, Croatia's Matea Jelic defeated Germany's Vanessa Koerndl 14-7 in the final match for the gold medal. The bronze was shared by France's Axelle Attoumani and Russia's Kristina Prokudina.

 

In the junior male -48kg weight division, host Chinese Taipei's Chen Yu Wang earned his country the gold medal as he defeated Kazakhstan's Artur Kim 13-6 in the final match. Uzbekistan's Valentin Khegay and the Netherlands' Machario Patti shared the bronze medal in the same category.

 

In the junior male -51kg weight category, Spain's Jesus Tortosa Cabrera came from behind to beat Korea's Jae-ha Seo 4-2 for the gold medal. In the division, the bronze went to Italy's Antonio Flecca and France's Abderahmane Bechaa.

 

In the junior male -73kg division, Russia's Khalid Muzaev required a fourth golden-point round to clinch the gold medal against Azerbaijan's Said Gulyev in the final match. Ukraine's Iurii Savenko and France's Ismael Bouzid Souhili shared the bronze medal in the same weight category.

 

The third day of the championships will feature six weight categories: the junior male -45kg, the junior male -68kg, the junior male -78kg, the junior female -42kg, the junior female -52kg and the junior female -59kg.
