World Taekwondo issues Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement on the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

In a diverse world, unity and inclusivity are not just lofty ideals—they're essential principles that guide our actions and shape our communities. As World Taekwondo embarks on its mission to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), it's imperative to underscore why such a commitment is vital.

Taekwondo transcends borders, reaching individuals from all walks of life. Yet, in this rich tapestry of humanity, disparities persist, and biases linger. By affirming its dedication to fostering a culture of acceptance and opportunity, World Taekwondo acknowledges the need for change.

Dr. Chungwon Choue, president of World Taekwondo, said: “This DEI Statement serves as a reminder—a call to recognise the significance of our collective action. Together, we'll strive to ensure that our sport becomes not just a symbol of athletic excellence, but a beacon of progress and inclusion for generations to come.”

World Taekwondo has Taekwondo practitioners in every corner of the world, with five Continental Unions and 213 Member National Associations we are a global sport. In addition to this presence, we strive to make Taekwondo accessible to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime.

We want the sport of Taekwondo to embrace people’s differences, to celebrate those differences, and to ensure they have a positive impact on the sport and our communities.

World Taekwondo promotes Taekwondo for All, to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging are part of the very fabric of our sport. World Taekwondo rejects discrimination and hate on any basis and is committed to providing equal opportunities for participation and advancement in Taekwondo. We want to ensure that everyone has a chance to contribute and to excel in our sport.  All athletes, coaches, umpires, staff, volunteers, and members of our community should feel connected, supported, and empowered in all aspects including but not limited to age, sex, race or ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, and gender identity, ability, education and income.

At World Taekwondo, we stand in unity and embrace diversity as our strength. World Taekwondo will continue to work with our stakeholders to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of Taekwondo so that everyone feels they belong to our community both on and off the mat.
