Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan secure two Paralympic places at Asian Qualification Tournament for Tokyo 2020

 

AMMAN, Jordan (May 23, 2021) - Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan today secured two places each at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 after finishing on top at the Asian Qualification Tournament in Amman, Jordan. Korea and Iran won the two remaining Paralympic places on offer.

 

Uzbekistan’s Ziyodakhon Isakova beat Fatemeh Dodangeh from Iran 11-5 in the K44 women’s -49kg final to secure her country’s place at the Paralympic Games.

 

In the K44 men’s -61kg, Uzbekistan’s Zukhriddin Tokhirov met Chinese Taipei’s Chien chiang Chen in the final. In a frantic and thrilling match, Tokhirov narrowly secured gold wining 39-36.

 

In the K44 men’s -75kg, Jeonghun Joo of Korea put on a convincing display to secure his country’s place at Tokyo 2020 as he beat Mongolia’s Shinebayar Batbayar 53-17 in the final.

 

Kazakhstan’s two Paralympic places were secured by Nyshan Omirali in the K44 men’s +75kg and Kamilya Dosmalova in the K44 women’s -58kg as both qualified automatically as the only athletes present in their divisions. The same occurred for Iran’s Rayehe Shahab who won gold in the K44 women’s +58kg.
