World Taekwondo Council Convenes Extraordinary Meeting to Address OTU Election Issues

(Jul 3, 2025) - The World Taekwondo (WT) Council convened an Extraordinary Meeting to address serious concerns regarding the contested results of the May 23, 2025 elections of the Oceania Taekwondo Union (OTU).

Following careful deliberation, the WT Council concluded that it was necessary to invalidate the OTU elections. To ensure stability and prepare for new elections, the Council approved the establishment of an Interim Board, in accordance with Article 9.3 of the WT Statutes.

The Interim Board will oversee OTU operations, cooperate with WT’s ongoing investigation into the May 23 election issues, and organize new elections in full compliance with WT governance standards.

These measures follow serious concerns raised over OTU’s governance issues that affected the credibility of the election results and process.

World Taekwondo remains committed to upholding the highest standards of good governance and integrity, and ensuring all of its Member National Associations and Continental Unions comply with the principles of the World Taekwondo Statutes.
