2013 Swiss Open Concludes in Great Success in Lausanne

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (June 9, 2013) - The Swiss Open 2013 wrapped up its two-day competition in a resounding success at the Olympic capital of Lausanne, Switzerland.

 

A total of 305 athletes, including 121 females, from 49 countries competed at the Swiss Open 2013, which was held at the Centre Sportif de Grande-Vennes in northeastern Lausanne. At the same venue, the 4th World Para-Taekwondo Championships were held on June 8, 2013, drawing a total of 82 athletes from 25 countries.

 

The 2013 Swiss Open, the second edition of its kind, featured four male and four female Olympic weight categories. The 2012 Swiss Open attracted 240 athletes from 45 countries.

 

In the women's -49kg category, Coratia's LUcija Zaninovic brushed aside a stiff challenge from China's Liping Liu to clinch the gold medal. In the women's -57kg division, Turkey's Fatma Saridogan beat Sweden's Nikita Glasnovic for the gold medal.

 

Sweden's Elin Johansson won the gold medal in the women's -67kg category, while China's Jua Zhang took the silver medal. In the women's +67kg class, Mexico's Briseida Acosta Balarezo defeated Austria's Edines Kurtovic to take home the gold medal.

 

In the men's -58kg category, Mexico's Damian Alejandro Villa Valadez beat his compatriot Irving Armando Delgado Avila to earn his country the gold medal. In the men's -68kg division, Germany's Daniel Manz won the gold medal against Mexico's Abel Jesus Mendoza Mora.

 

Germany's Tahir Guelec beat Spain's Raul Martinez in the men's -80kg final match for the gold medal, while the Philli[ines' Kristopher Robert Uy took home the gold medal against Germany's Volker Wodzich in the men's +80kg category.
