Testing, Intelligence & RTP

The aim of testing is to detect and deter doping among athletes to protect clean athletes.

Any athlete under the testing jurisdiction of the World Taekwondo may be tested at any time, with no advance notice, in- or out-of-competition, and be required to provide a urine or blood sample.

WHAT ARE TESTING POOLS AND WHY ARE WHEREABOUTS IMPORTANT FOR CLEAN SPORT?

No-advance notice out-of-competition testing is one of the most powerful means of deterrence and detection of doping. To support this type of testing, the WT has created testing pools as part of its testing program.
Certain athletes in the WT testing pools, such as those in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) and in the Testing Pool (TP), are required to provide information on their whereabouts in ADAMS, WADA’s online anti-doping administration and management system.
The WT updates the composition of the testing pools (RTP and TP regularly/at least yearly. Athletes in the RTP are chosen based on set criteria.
WTF has selected athletes to be listed for 2017 WTF RTP & TP based on the following principles and considerations:

  • Risk Assessment in Taekwondo
  • Top 40 Male athletes and 30 Female athletes of the 2017 January WT Olympic Ranking
  • Medalists from Rio Olympic Games
  • Athletes without NADO in their countries
  • Athletes not selected in their countries’ RTP
  • Recently injured athletes
  • Athletes that registered high performance in one month
  • Athletes with sudden withdrawal record from WT Promoted Championships
  • Athletes not tested out of competition in the past one year
  • Athletes with a suspicious behavior
  • Athletes with previous Unsuccessful Attempt Failure record
  • Inclusion of Para Taekwondo athletes
  • Inclusion of Junior division athletes potentially competitive for next Olympic Games
  • Inclusion of athletes suspended for Anti-Doping Rule Violation
  • Inclusion of athletes with an Atypical Finding record
  • Consideration of weight division balance
  • Consideration of continental allocation balance
  • Consideration of gender balance

2019 WT RTP Athletes List & Selection Criteria

WHAT SHOULD ATHLETES DO IF THEY WISH TO RETIRE OR RETURN TO COMPETITION AFTER RETIRING?

All WT-licensed athletes who decide to retire from competition must inform the WT through their National Federations sending the WT Retirement Notification Form to sport@worldtaekwondo.org and antidoping@worldtaekwondo.org in copy to kabir.gms@worldtaekwondo.org.
For RTP athletes, as soon as the retirement is officially confirmed to the WT, the athlete will be withdrawn from the WT’s RTP with immediate effect. If an athlete wishes to resume competing, they will not be able to do so until they have given the WT written notice of their intent to resume competing and made themselves available for testing for a period of six months. Please consult Article 5.7 of the WT Anti-Doping Rules.
