Pan Am Qualification Tournament for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Goes Ahead in Costa Rica

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (March 10, 2020) - Six para taekwondo athletes qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics via the Pan Am Qualification Tournament, which took place on March 10, at the Palacio de los Desportes Heredia in Costa Rica.

 

The successful athletes – one for each of the six categories which will be contested in Tokyo - are:

 

W-49kg: Leonor Espinoza Carranza (Peru)

 

W-58kg: Silvana Mayara Cardoso Fernandes (Brazil)

 

W+58kg: Daniela Andrea Martinez Mariscal (Mexico)

 

M-61kg: Nathan Torquato (Brazil)

 

M-75kg: Juan Eduardo Samorano (Argentina)

 

M+75kg: Francisco Pedroza (Mexico)

 

Taekwondo is set to make its Paralympic debut in Tokyo 2020, and para taekwondo’s African and Oceanian qualification tournaments have already taken place.

 

The European tournament is scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia, while the Asia qualifier will be held in Amman, Jordan.
