Oceania Paralympic places go to Australia and Solomon Islands

GOLD COAST, Australia (29 February 2020) - The Oceania Paralympic Qualifier tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games took place in Gold Coast, Australia on 29 February as some of the continent’s best Para Taekwondo athletes took part to secure  qualification spots.

 

Male and female athletes across four Paralympic weight categories were in attendance with the winners in each category securing their country a place at the Tokyo 2020, where Para Taekwondo will make its first ever appearance at a Paralympic Games.

 

Host nation, Australia, dominated the qualifying event winning three out of the four spots available. Kara Fournie won gold in the K44 W-49kg category, Janine Watson won gold in the K44 W+58kg category and Steven Currie won gold in the K44 M-75kg category. The one remaining qualification place went to the Solomon Islands with Solomon Jagiri winning gold in the K44 M-61kg.
